BARBIE ZOMBIES - A1

Rap, Hip-Hop, Breakbeat

“Barbie Zombies” is a dark, sarcastic song about a popular but toxic “queen bee” who controls a group of followers that blindly adopt her opinions, anger, gossip, and grudges. The “Barbie zombies” represent people who look confident & put-together on the outside but have little independent thought underneath, going along with whatever the leader says so they can belong. The song explores social exclusion, rumors, backhanded cruelty, & the fear of becoming the next target, while ultimately asking what remains of someone’s identity when their opinions are borrowed from the crowd. The ending drives home the central idea: once the queen disappears, her followers are still standing there, waiting to be told what to do and think. Barbie zombies. Remote-controlled haters. Followers of the loser queen bee.

Song

Watering Hole Vampire - A1, Old Words

Berlin Burlesque, Funky

[Song adapted from this tidbit in a book I am writing. These places, these dive bars, these hole in the wall bars, so contrasted from my youth growing up in a conservative Keynesian suburb of ____, Michigan. Spending time in these bars was like visiting a cheap candy store of opulence where I was able to sample misery, skullduggery, thievery, prostitution, pimpism, druggies and drug dealers all the while, while maintaining clean hands and a clean but cloudy soul. It definitely, definitely was not a boring world. And I liked the visual buffet line offered up by them in the decline. Refill please. Is there ever enough roadkill in the buffet line of life? For me I knew the answer was no. But I was no predator or lazy slacker vulture. No for me, life was just my TV screen and some channels amused me more than others. Decay and decline, now that’s where the stories are. Redemption, that’s the candy, but we all know what that tastes like, but decay and decline, yeah, that’s where the whodunit stories lay buried, and I loved that smell more than the lily white smell of redemption.] Verse 1 I spent my days beneath fluorescent lights, Punching someone else’s clock,

The Education of ME - A2 (Newer Words)

[“The song is a nostalgic look back at the unexpected teachers who shaped my life—cartoon characters, TV heroes, Speed Racer, church, Lisle friends, and, ultimately, Mom and Dad. Each taught a different lesson about emotion, perseverance, courage, teamwork, faith, kindness, sportsmanship, and friendship.] Verse 1 — The First Teachers My first teachers never gave me a book, They lived inside a black-and-white TV screen.

Runway Outcast - A1

Asthmatic astatic - a person so mismatched and disconnected from fashion that even the forces that are supposed to pull things together can’t bring them into alignment.] I’m a mixed-matched Garanimal, A closet animal lost in the kingdom Of the apparel zoos.

Born From a Rumor - A2

indie folk, fast, bouncy

Born from a Rumor [I wanted to write a song about school bullying—a girl who was mocked and humiliated until she took her own life. The song is told retrospectively by one of the girls who participated in the bullying, imagining the pain and isolation the girl endured, then confronting her own role in the cruelty that helped drive her there. It’s a confession of guilt and remorse, and a warning about how words meant as jokes can leave wounds long after the laughter ends.] [Verse 1 — sparse piano, distant atmospheric guitar; intimate female vocal] I was born from a rumor
